“We fought all day and had gutsy performances in the circle by Andie [Larkins] and Alyssa [Reuble],” said head coach Geoff Hirai. “Today we played to the standard that we’re setting for Seattle U softball.”
Seattle and Princeton scored one apiece in the third inning, the Redhawks’ on an Isabella Geronimo (San Mateo, Calif.) single to center field. A two-run fifth inning for the Redhawks gave SU a 3-1 win as Rose Saenz (San Gabriel, Calif.) hit a two-RBI double to center.
Princeton would tie the contest scoring a run apiece in the sixth and seventh on a double and subsequent single, sending it into extra innings, but Paige Bouska (Keizer, Ore.) brought Erika Rodgers (Glendora, Calif.) home for the winning run on an RBI single.
In the second game of the day, all six combined runs between the two teams were scored in the first inning. San Diego scored on a two-RBI Kailey Hill single up the middle while the Redhawks scored on a Saenz double, a botched throw home, and a Molly Campbell (San Diego, Calif.) two-RBI homer, all with two outs.
Andie Larkins (Tucson, Ariz.) picked up a complete game victory vs. Princeton, striking out four, while Claire Klausner suffered the complete game loss. Alyssa Reuble (Lynnwood, Wash.) picked up the win against San Diego, striking out six in 5 1/3 innings pitched.
At the plate, Bouska led SU with a .625 average (5-for-8) with two runs, two doubles, and an RBI while Kristjanson followed closely behind with a .600 average (3-for-5), also adding a run and two doubles.
The Redhawks continue the weekend facing Cal Poly on Saturday, Mar. 19, a contest scheduled for 4:30 pm.
