Seattle U loaded the bases in the top of the first with two outs but an inning-ending fielder’s choice would leave three on base and eliminate the Redhawks’ first early scoring chance.
Colgate scored two in the bottom of the second on a solo homer from Lauren La Terra and a Meghan Romero RBI single down the right field line. Adding to their lead in the bottom of the fifth, Holly Geranen singled home Marisa Dowling, who reached base in the previous at bat on a double.
Isabella Geronimo (San Mateo, Calif.) hit a single to center field to bring home Kaylee Ree (Gresham, Ore.) in the top of the sixth, but SU would leave two on base in the inning.
Lindsay Davis (Palo Cedro, Calif.) was handed the loss in the circle for Seattle U, walking four and striking out one in four innings pitched, while Alyssa Reuble (Lynnwood, Wash.) entered for the final two innings, walking one and striking out two. Brigit Ieuter picked up the win for Colgate, walking and striking out four apiece in the complete game outing.
Maddy Kristjanson (Mountlake Terrace, Wash.) led SU at the plate, batting 2-for-3.
In game two vs. Stony Brook, a game originally scheduled for Friday, the Redhawks and Seawolves made it to the bottom of the fifth as SU had the bases loaded but the game would ultimately be called a “no contest” as rain ended the game early.
Due to continued rain in the area, all of Sunday's games have been cancelled and the Redhawks' weekend play has come to a close. SU heads to San Diego, Calif. next weekend for the San Diego St. Classic II in search of sunnier skies. Stay tuned to @su_athletics on Twitter for updates throughout the 2016 season.
