“We showed some resilience in getting the win in the last game,” said head coach Geoff Hirai. “We are improving every week and making adjustments. We can’t wait to be home next weekend and look forward to our fans being able to come out and support us at home.”
The Redhawks co-host a tournament with UW next weekend and will play their next seven games at home. Next weekend, Seattle U will host seven games, five featuring the Redhawks, before a doubleheader the following Wednesday. Game 1: Sacramento State 4, Seattle U 2
Seattle U scored a run in their first time up as Paige Bouska (Keizer, Ore.) scored on a sacrifice fly after reaching base on a leadoff triple. Sacramento State responded in the bottom of the second, taking a 3-1 lead, before the Redhawks pulled within one, 3-2, in the sixth on an RBI double from Isabella Geronimo (San Mateo, Calif.). In the bottom of the frame, Zamari Hinton hit an RBI single up the middle for insurance.
Sacramento State and Seattle U equaled in hits with eight apiece as Bouska and Kayla Shuster-Gonzales (Escondido, Calif.) led SU at the plate, each going 2-for-3.
In the circle, Celina Matthias picked up the win for Sacramento State, walking one and striking out three, while Alyssa Reuble (Lynnwood, Wash.) struck out three in the loss for Seattle U.
Game 2: Seattle U 5, Saint Mary’s 2
The Redhawks took a 4-0 lead through the first three innings thanks in part to a three-run third inning on a Maddy Kristjanson (Mountlake Terrace, Wash.) double and Kaylee Ree (Gresham, Ore.) single.
Erica Musgrave put St. Mary’s on the board with a base hit in the bottom of the fourth and scored one more in the seventh on a Loralie Fitzpatrick double to left field but SU added an insurance run on a Kristjanson double to center field in the fifth.
Andie Larkins (Tucson, Ariz.) picked up the win, walking three and striking out six in the circle for Seattle U while Lujane Mussadi walked and struck out one apiece in four innings for the Gaels.
