“We came out on the losing end today of a 4-3 match,” said head coach Adam Reeb. “Our doubles was, again, pretty solid and we fought hard in singles but came up just a little short. I give credit to Idaho State, who rebounded well from our hard-fought match yesterday. I’m super proud of our efforts in playing three incredibly physical matches in two days. The guys played with a lot of heart and effort. We’re looking forward to being home now for our next five matches before starting conference play.”
For the fourth straight match, the Redhawks earned the doubles point, coming from behind to take the second two matches at No. 1 and No. 2.
As Seattle U went into singles up 1-0, Idaho State took a 3-1 lead with wins in the first three matches to finish. At No. 4 singles, Connor Leahy (Portland, Ore.) defeated Josh Goodwin in a three-set match, 6-2, 2-6, 6-4, and John Stormans (Olympia, Wash.) earned a straight sets victory at No. 2 singles to tie the match, three-all.
Coming down to the final match for the second straight day, William Edin defeated Ian Clare (Sachse, Texas), 6-3, 6-3, in the No. 1 singles spot to clinch the victory for the Bengals.
The Redhawks return home for five straight matches before starting Western Athletic Conference play in late March. SU’s next contest will be Saturday, Feb. 27 at the Tennis Center at Sand Point vs. Whitman at 5 p.m.
