Seattle University men’s tennis (1-9) won the doubles point and would go on to win five of six singles in a 6-1 victory vs. George Fox (1-2), their first spring win of 2016.

“It was nice to get a win today,” said head coach Adam Reeb. “It was a total team effort up and down the board and the great crowd we had was a helpful addition. George Fox is a good team and they play with a ton of heart and energy. We did a great job of staying within ourselves and playing our game. Our doubles was aggressive, which is what we’ve been working on, and that set the tone for our singles. We’ll look to build on this and continue trying to bring this type of effort and intensity throughout the rest of the season.”

The Redhawks took a 1-0 lead into singles play after winning two of three doubles matches to take the first point. Seattle U went on to win five straight singles matches, all in straight sets, before dropping a hard-fought three-set match in the No. 1 spot. The wins for George Fox at doubles and singles each came after the point and match had already been decided, respectively.

The Redhawks face Lewis-Clark State College and Idaho State on Saturday, Feb. 20 and Sunday, Feb. 21 next weekend in Pocatello, Idaho before returning home to host Whitman on Feb. 27 at the Tennis Center at Sand Point.
