Three members of the Seattle University men’s swim team competed Thursday and Friday at the AT&T United States Winter National Championships, held at the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center.
Thursday, Tanner Schelling (Boise, Idaho) competed in the preliminaries of the 50 meter freestyle, finishing in 92nd place in the overall session with a time of 24.15 seconds. Schelling returned to the meet Friday morning for the 100 meter breaststroke, finishing in 47th place in the preliminaries with a time of 1:04.95.
Before Schelling entered the pool Friday, two other Redhawks competed, starting with Jack Baldoni (Applegate, Calif.) in the 100 meter butterfly, where he finished in 58th place in the preliminaries with a time of 56.39 seconds. Of note, multiple gold medal winner Michael Phelps finished second in the morning session with a mark of 51.96 seconds.
In the 200 meter freestyle, Nick Connors (Richland, Wash.) competed in the first heat of the preliminaries, posting a time of 1:59.16.
The Seattle University swim team will head to Coronado Island, Calif., for its annual winter training session Dec. 13-18. The Redhawks return to competition with back-to-back dual meets against Whitworth University in Spokane, Wash., Friday, Jan. 8, and Saturday, Jan. 9.
