GAME #12: Seattle University makes one of the shortest road trips a team can make, as it is just a short drive from the SU campus to Alaska Airlines Arena, where the Redhawks will face the Washington Huskies Tuesday night. This is the final game for Seattle U before Christmas, as well as the third contest in a stretch of five straight games within the Puget Sound region.

THE SAN JOSE STATE GAME: Seattle University used its ability to cause turnovers, as well as an improved offensive performance in the second half, to come from behind to defeat San Jose State, 67-64, Sunday night at KeyArena. Down by 10 points with 8:48 remaining in the second half, Seattle U scored 10 unanswered points, including three-pointers by Brendan Westendorf and Manroop Clair as well as a steal by Westendorf leading to a jumper by Malik Montoya, to tie the game at 49-49. Clair answered a Frank Rogers three-pointer with one of his own, but Isaac Thornton scored five points and then earned a steal that led to a basket by Brandon Clarke that put the Spartans back on top, 59-56, with less than four minutes to go in regulation. Back-to-back jumpers by William Powell put the Redhawks ahead, 62-61, and then Jack Crook followed two missed Spartan shots with a jumper to increase the Seattle U lead to three. After Rogers made two free throws, each team traded a made free throw, and then Westendorf converted two free throw attempts to extend the Redhawk lead back to three with seven seconds remaining. The Spartans attempted two three-pointers to tie the game, but both were off-target, giving the Redhawks their third straight home victory.

SCOUTING WASHINGTON: The Huskies enter Tuesday’s game with a 7-3 overall record after seeing their four-game winning streak snapped with a 97-83 loss to Oakland Saturday. Washington is 5-1 so far this season at Alaska Airlines Arena, averaging 93.0 points per game while allowing just 71.5 points per game on its home floor. As a team in all games, the Huskies are shooting 42.0 percent from the field, including 34.1 percent from behind the three-point line, and 68.6 percent from the free throw line. Andrew Andrews leads the team in scoring, averaging 20.4 points per game, plus he has contributed 6.5 rebounds, 3.8 assists, and 1.2 steals per game. Dejounte Murray is averaging 14.1 points, 6.6 rebounds, 4.4 assists, and 1.7 steals per game, and Marquese Chriss has added 13.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, 1.5 blocked shots, and 1.0 steals per game.
