2016:17: Appeared in eight games during his sophomore campaign... first appearance of the season was 14 minutes of action off the bench against Northwest university (Dec. 1)... Saw 20 minutes of action at Eastern Washington (Dec. 4), then had seven points, four rebounds and three steals in 16 minutes against Great Falls (Dec. 10)... matched the season-high seven points in 21 minutes of action against Washington (Dec. 22)... for the season, averaged 17.6 minutes, 3.3 points, 1.5 rebounds and 2.0 assists... also went a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line...

2015-2016: In Montoya's first season as a true freshman for Seattle University he contributed in 13 games before suffering a knee injury in the teams’ first WAC game at UMKC (University of Missouri-Kansas City)... before his injury, he came off the bench to provide the Redhawks with a defensive presence averaging 1.5 steals per game in just 20.2 minutes per game... at home versus UC Davis, Montoya contributed 11 points, three rebounds, three assists, and three steals as the Redhawks went on to beat the Aggies in OT, 80-75...

High School: Montoya played high school basketball for Federal Way High in Federal Way, Wash... averaged 17.9 points per game in the 2013-2014 season, and in the 2014-2015 season his Eagles won the 4A State Title... in the SPSL Tournament Malik scored a career high 34 points against Tahoma High School...

Personal: Born in Federal Way, Wash., Montoya is the youngest of two... sister (Teress) attended University of Louisville, and was a soccer stand out in high school... Montoya is currently majoring in Strategic Communications at Seattle University...
