Seattle University head women’s golf coach Marc Chandonnet has announced that Kelly Hunt (Brentwood, Calif.), currently a senior at Heritage High School, signed a National Letter of Intent during the recent November signing period to attend Seattle U and join the Redhawk golf program starting in the 2016-17 academic year.
After second place finishes in both 2013 and 2014, Hunt won the BVAL individual championship this past spring and helped the Heritage Patriots win their second league team title in three years. A three-time All-League performer and back-to-back BVAL MVP, Hunt posted an individual record of 11-0 in 2015 with a scoring average of 75.5, plus she has led the Patriots to a 28-2 record over the past three seasons.
Hunt is the president of the National Honor Society at Heritage High School, has served as an attorney in the mock trial club, and entered the Lions Club Speech Competition in 2014, winning at both the district and county levels. Her parents Lori and Jim Hunt were both varsity athletes at Framingham State University in Massachusetts, with her mom Lori, who played both softball and basketball, earning induction into the school’s Athletics Hall of Fame in 2011.
“Kelly brings an infectious energy and enthusiasm to our team, others seem to gravitate to her personality, and we believe it will have a great impact on our success,” said Chandonnet. “She is a wonderful student, very athletic and loves to compete. Her work ethic paired with her big goals and dreams should be a recipe for success. Lastly, Kelly comes from a wonderful family and has a fabulous support system which is very important to us.”
Coming off a second place finish at the 2015 Western Athletic Conference Championships, the Seattle University women’s golf team just completed its fall schedule with a second straight top five placement at the Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational. The Redhawks will play six tournaments in the spring season, starting with the Matador Invitational Feb. 8-9 in Simi Valley, Calif., leading up to the 2016 WAC Women’s Golf Championships Apr. 22-24 at the Semiahmoo Golf and Country Club in Blaine, Wash.
