Seattle University women’s tennis, making their second straight appearance at the Stanford-hosted Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Regionals, earned several victories over some of the nation’s best. ITA Regional Championships, with 85 such tournaments taking place around the country from Oct. 14-27, feature some of the top men’s and women’s players across the country.

“We had a great weekend competing in the ITA Regionals hosted by Stanford,” said head coach Adam Reeb. “It was an opportunity for our student-athletes to showcase themselves against the best in our region. We played some very good tennis and we ended up posting some nice results.”

Michelle Lui (Bellevue, Wash.) defeated Santa Clara’s Nabila Farah in the open singles bracket, also defeating UC Davis’ Jessie Lee in consolation play.

“Michelle played some dynamite tennis in singles, defeating a very good player from Santa Clara before dropping an extremely tough match to Stanford’s Kimberly Yee. Michelle went toe-to-toe with the top ranked recruit in the nation last year, so it was an impressive showing for her.”

Barbara Carey (Seattle, Wash.) and Kelli Woodman (Denver, Colo.) also earned consolation victories versus Cal Poly’s Bryn Bacharach and Pacific’s Yuki Asami, respectively.

“Kelli and Barbara also posted solid wins in singles in the consolation draw against Pacific and Cal Poly.”

The Redhawks’ most impressive and significant win occurred in consolation doubles play when Lui and Woodman defeated Washington State’s Victoria Matejevic and Holly Monahan, 8-3.

“Any time you can get a victory against a Pac-12 school, it’s a good result,” Reeb added. “This was a great experience for our women’s tennis players and we now look forward to closing out our fall season at Gonzaga’s Bulldog Invitational in two weeks.”

Seattle U closes their fall season in Spokane at the Bulldog Invitational on Friday, Nov. 6-Sunday, Nov. 8 and will open the spring 2016 season at Washington on Saturday, Jan. 9.
