“UNLV played us tougher than anyone has played us all season and tonight was a battle,” said head coach Pete Fewing. “Danny Musovski scored a great goal on a header and finished with a penalty kick. The crowd was great and the atmosphere was fantastic; we had about 12-15 alumni there and the guys represented them well. We had a wonderful goal from Alex Roldan on a fantastic cross from Jeff Rose. Our second goal was from Sam Langston, his first, to tie the game under a lot of pressure. Kyle Bjornethun scored the game-winner and he was patient, composed, and took his opening. It was his third game-winner of the season, which is exciting from a defender and captain. Shane [Haworth] was under a lot of pressure and it was a really, really good and entertaining soccer game.”
The game tied, 2-2, Kyle Bjornethun (Snohomish, Wash.) scored his third game-winner of the season in the 87th minute, an unassisted goal deflected back to Bjornethun from a previous shot attempt.
Alex Roldan (Pico Rivera, Calif.) put the Redhawks ahead in the 30th minute on a sliding kick from the right side on an assist from Jeff Rose (Carmichael, Calif.).
The game was tied, 1-1, at half after UNLV’s goal leader, Danny Musovski, scored on a running header in the box off a long cross from Shota Takada. Musovski added his second straight goal in the 52nd minute on a penalty kick to pull the Rebels ahead, 2-1.
Eight minutes later, Sam Langston (Sammamish, Wash.) scored his first career goal on a penalty kick in the 60th minute to equalize the score.
Seattle U outshot UNLV, 11-9, over the contest, led by Roldan with three shots, all on frame.
In goal, Shane Haworth (Puyallup, Wash.) made two saves for SU while UNLV’s Richard Garness made one save.
Seattle U heads to Phoenix to face Grand Canyon on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 2:30 pm after the SU women’s match vs. the Lopes at noon. Both matches will be broadcast for free on the WAC Digital Network (www.wacsports.com/live) online, tablet, and phone.
