The Seattle University men’s golf team wrapped up its fall season Tuesday, finishing fourth at the Bill Cullum Invitational, hosted by CSU Northridge at the Wood Ranch Golf Club.
Joe Harvie (Orting, Wash.) struggled on the front nine, but two birdies on the back nine allowed him to shoot 77 (+5), ending up in a tie for fourth place with a three-round total of 211 (-5). Kyle Cornett (Mill Creek, Wash.) posted Seattle U’s best round of the day, collecting three birdies as he shot 72 (even) to stay in a tie for 17th place at 214 (-2).
Patrick Sato (Bellevue, Wash.) picked up 14 pars as he shot 76 (+4) to complete the tournament in a tie for 22nd place at 216 (even). Ross Kukula (Ocean Park, Wash.) finished in a tie for 56th place at 224 (+8) after a third-round 78 (+6), and Ahren Young (Renton, Wash.) shot 87 (+15) to end up in 90th place at 242 (+26).
Seattle U posted a team score of 303 (+15) to finish the tournament in fourth place with a 54-hole total of 865 (+1), ahead of Big West schools Long Beach State, UC Santa Barbara, and Cal Poly. Loyola Marymount won the team title with a final score of 842 (-22), five strokes ahead of Pepperdine, with Fidel Concepcion of Southern Utah shooting a final-round 67 (-5) to earn medalist honors at 207 (-9) by one stroke over Hayden Shieh of Santa Clara.
The Seattle University men’s golf team is scheduled to compete in six regular season golf tournaments next spring, including the third annual Redhawk Invitational at Chambers Bay Apr. 4-5, 2016. The 2016 Western Athletic Conference Men’s Golf Championships will take place at Loomis Trail Golf Club in Blaine, Wash., Apr. 30-May 2.
