The Seattle University men’s golf team shot two of its best rounds of the season, posting under-par scores to end Monday in second place after two rounds of the Bill Cullum Invitational, hosted by CSU Northridge at the Wood Ranch Golf Club.

Joe Harvie (Orting, Wash.) got off to a slow start with two bogeys over his first five holes, but he did not post a bogey the rest of the day, starting with four birdies and an eagle on the par-five 18th hole to shoot 68 (-4) in the morning round. On his second circuit, he started with nine pars, and then birdied six of the final nine holes to shoot 66 (-6), moving to the top of the leaderboard with a two-round total of 134 (-10), one stroke ahead of Zach Smith of UC Santa Barbara.

Patrick Sato (Bellevue, Wash.) was steady throughout the day, collecting four birdies against just two bogeys in each round to shoot 70 (-2) both times, finishing the day in a tie for sixth place at 140 (-4). Kyle Cornett (Mill Creek, Wash.) opened play with an even-par 72, including an eagle on the par-five 15th hole, and then he improved in the second round to a 70 (-2) thanks to five birdies against just three bogeys, landing in a tie for 17th place at 142 (-2).

Ross Kukula (Ocean Park, Wash.) collected four birdies during the morning round as he shot 72 (even), but he slipped slightly in the second round, shooting 74 (+2) even though he eagled the par-five sixth hole, ending up in a tie for 34th place at 146 (+2). Ahren Young (Renton, Wash.) combined rounds of 76 (+4) and 79 (+7) for a two-round total of 155 (+11), ending up in a tie for 81st place.

As a team, Seattle U combined for a first-round score of 282 (-6), good enough for third place, but then the Redhawks shot 280 (-8) in the second round to move up to second place with a cumulative total of 562 (-14), three strokes behind tournament leader Loyola Marymount.

The third and final round of the Bill Cullum Invitational is scheduled to take place Tuesday, Oct. 20, with an 8 a.m. shotgun start. The Redhawks are expected to tee off from the first, second, and third holes along with players from Loyola Marymount, Santa Clara, and Pepperdine.
