The Seattle University men’s golf team held steady as play concluded Tuesday at the Cabo Del Sol Intercollegiate, finishing in eighth place at the tournament hosted by Santa Clara University at the Cabo del Sol Ocean and Desert Courses.

Joe Harvie (Orting, Wash.) remained the top Redhawk on the leaderboard, but he struggled in the final round, shooting 77 (+5) to finish in 10th place at 217 (+1). Patrick Sato (Bellevue, Wash.) was one of just four golfers among the 58-player field to post a third round score in the 60s, collecting five birdies against just one bogey for a 68 (-4), moving up into a tie for 21st place with a three-round total of 221 (+5).

Kyle Cornett (Mill Creek, Wash.) earned three birdies, but too many high scores led to a third-round 79 (+7), landing him in a tie for 31st place with a cumulative score of 225 (+9). Ross Kukula (Ocean Park, Wash.) and Ahren Young (Renton, Wash.) each posted a 54-hole total of 241 (+25), with Young shooting 76 (+4) and Kukula ending with an 81 (+9).

For the second straight round, Seattle U posted a score of 300 (+12), staying in eighth place in the final standings with a cumulative total of 899 (+35). Georgia State completed a wire-to-wire victory with a final score of 858 (-6), three strokes ahead of Georgia Southern. Hayden Shieh of Santa Clara shot 68 to come from behind to earn medalist honors with a final score of 207 (-9), two strokes in front of teammate Tyler Kertson.

Seattle University will take a week off from competition before heading to Simi Valley, Calif., for the Bill Cullum Invitational, hosted by CSU Northridge Oct. 19-20 at the Wood Ranch Golf Club.
