Sophomore Joe Harvie (Orting, Wash.) remained close to the top of the individual leaderboard with his second consecutive under-par round as Seattle University completed day two of the Cabo Del Sol Intercollegiate Monday, hosted by Santa Clara University at the Cabo del Sol Desert Course.
Harvie’s second-round 70 was steadier than the first round version, as he birdied the fourth, 10th, and 15th holes while posting bogey on only the 17th hole. At four-under-par 140, Harvie is tied for fifth place, just two strokes behind 36-hole leader Tyler Kertson of Santa Clara, who shot 68 (-4) to move up into the lead by one stroke over three golfers.
Kyle Cornett (Mill Creek, Wash.) got off to a rough start with three bogeys over his first six holes, but he settled down during the next nine holes, collecting a birdie on the ninth hole and shooting par on the other eight holes. Cornett then bogeyed two of the final three holes to shoot 76 (+4), ending the day in a tie for 18th place at 146 (+2).
Patrick Sato (Bellevue, Wash.) showed improvement from his opening round thanks to four birdies, shooting 75 (+3) to finish the second round at 153 (+9), good enough for a tie for 39th place. Ross Kukula (Ocean Park, Wash.) is in a tie for 50th place at 160 (+16) after shooting 79 (+7) in the second round, while Ahren Young (Renton, Wash.) is currently in 54th place at 165 (+21) after posting a second round score of 84 (+12).
As a team, Seattle U posted a second-round score of 300 (+12) to finish the day in eighth place at 599 (+23), three strokes in front of Stephen F. Austin in ninth place. Georgia State continues to sit atop the team standings at 570 (-6) by two strokes over Georgia Southern.
The third and final round of the Cabo Del Sol Intercollegiate will take place Tuesday, Oct. 6, with a shotgun start set for 7:30 a.m. local time (6:30 a.m. Pacific Time). Seattle U golfers will be teeing off from the 10th through 13th holes.
