Seattle University men’s tennis earned several successes at Boise State’s Dar Walters Classic, highlighted by a doubles consolation draw win from Matt Alderson (Bainbridge Island, Wash.) and Connor Leahy (Portland, Ore.).

“It was a successful tournament for us this past weekend in Boise,” said head coach Adam Reeb. “We got to play a lot of competitive matches and experienced a good amount of success. There were 11 high quality teams in the field, so it was a great opportunity for us to compete against strong teams and programs and get the guys a lot of matches.

After falling to Idaho State’s Sebastian Edin and William Edin in the main draw, Alderson and Leahy won five straight to take the consolation draw. The pair defeated teams from Idaho State, Utah State, and Montana, as well as a pair of their own teammates.

Matt Alderson and Connor Leahy finished the tournament on a great note, winning five matches in a row to win the consolation doubles draw. It was a great performance for those guys to come back after dropping their opening match.”

In singles play, Ian Clare (Sachse, Texas) and Jeremiah Kalmus (Kenmore, Wash.) advanced as far as the quarterfinals of the consolation singles draw.

“We’ve had two good performances in fall tournaments so far and we look to get back on the practice court for a lot of individual time.  We’re excited to prepare for our last fall event – ITA Regionals – where we’ll have the opportunity to compete against the best in our Northwest region.”

The Redhawks are set to complete their fall schedule at the ITA Regionals in Seattle from Thursday, Oct. 22-Monday, Oct. 26.
