Seattle University’s Michelle Lui (Bellevue, Wash.) has been named Western Athletic Conference Female Tennis Player of the Month for the month of September 2015. Last year’s WAC Freshman of the Year was part of a Redhawk squad that won all four draws at the Idaho State Invitational last weekend.

“Michelle had a great weekend at the Idaho State Invitational, winning both the singles draw and doubles draw with partner Kelli Woodman,” said head coach Adam Reeb. “She showed great poise and professionalism in having to play teammates in both the semis and finals, which is never easy to do. Michelle competed well and made adjustments when she needed to, and the result was a fantastic weekend for her. This is a well-deserved honor for Michelle.”

Lui won the singles black draw in Pocatello with victories over Idaho State’s Wiebke Boeckman, Utah State’s Jenna Kane, and teammates Madison Maloney (Idaho Falls, Idaho) and Kelli Woodman (Denver, Colo.).

In doubles play, with partner Woodman, the pair won a trio of matches versus opponents from Idaho State, Southern Utah, and Utah State, respectively en route to sweeping the black doubles draw.

Kristen James (Lubbock, Texas) also won the orange singles flight for the Redhawks while James and partner Kailyn Skjonsby (Grapeview, Wash.) won the round robin orange doubles draw.

The Redhawk women’s tennis team hosts Pacific Lutheran at the Seattle U tennis courts on Wednesday, Oct. 7 at 5 p.m.
