“I thought we had a decent first half,” said head coach Julie Woodward. “Things evened out a bit in the second half. Utah Valley is a good team and they were ready to play. I was happy with our resiliency in terms of tying the game back up so quickly. As much as we would’ve liked the result, leaving Utah playing against one of the best teams in the conference with a tie on the road is ok.”
Utah Valley took the lead first in the 63rd minute on Sara Callister’s one touch goal after a blocked goalie clearance attempt. Just under nine minutes later, Karli White (North Bend, Wash.) evened the score with her fourth goal of the season, beating the keeper on the back pass with a floater into the lower right corner of the net.
Hannah Carrothers (Delta, B.C.) took the first shot of the game, adding three more midway through the first half. White took SU’s earned corner kick 39 seconds into the second half, contributing a shot on goal just over 12 minutes later.
The Wolverines controlled possession in the first overtime while the Redhawks controlled the second half offensively, but neither team could add to their tally.
White led all players on the field with five shots, two on goal, as well as the goal. UVU outshot SU by just one, 11-10, overall.
In goal, Brianna Smallidge (Port Orchard, Wash.) made two saves for Seattle U and the Wolverines’ Jessica Duffin made one save.
The Redhawks continue their month-long road swing at Chicago State (Friday, Oct. 2) and UMKC (Sunday, Oct. 4) next weekend before returning home for their conference home opener on Friday, Oct. 9 vs. UTRGV.
