The Seattle University men’s golf team opened the 2015-16 season by playing the first two rounds of the Husky Invitational Monday, ending the day in 14th place in the tournament hosted by the University of Washington at the par-71 Tumble Creek Golf Course.

Kyle Cornett (Mill Creek, Wash.) posted Seattle U’s best score of the first round, shooting 75 (+4), and then he shot 77 (+6) in the second round despite going birdie-eagle on the 14th and 15th holes, both par five holes. Cornett ended the day in a tie for 37th place at 152 (+10).

Ross Kukula (Ocean Park, Wash.) shot consecutive rounds of 77 (+6) despite four birdies in the second round to finish the day in a tie for 48th place with a two-round total of 154 (+12). Joe Harvie (Orting, Wash.) followed an opening round 80 (+9) with a second round of 75 (+4), the Redhawks’ best score of the afternoon round thanks to four birdies of his own, to move into a tie for 53rd place at 155 (+13).

Patrick Sato (Bellevue, Wash.) showed some improvement from a first round 83 (+12) to a second round score of 80 (+9), but that score was disqualified due to the signing of an incorrect scorecard. Playing in his first collegiate tournament, Ryan Hunt (Pitt Meadows, B.C.) opened with a 91 (+20) before improving in the second round to an 85 (+14), finishing the day in 69th place at 176 (+34).

Playing in the Husky Individual at the par-72 Prospector Golf Course, Ahren Young (Renton, Wash.) posted scores of 84 (+12) and 83 (+11) to end the day in 41st place at 167 (+23).

As a team, Seattle U posted scores of 315 (+31) and 314 (+30) to finish the first day of the tournament in 14th place at 629 (+61). The top four spots in the team standings are occupied by Pac-12 schools, led by Oregon State (578) by five strokes over host Washington (583) and Oregon (583) and by six strokes over USC (584). Washington’s Corey Pereira and USC’s Sean Crocker each shot rounds of 69 and 68 to share the 36-hole lead at 137 (-5) by one stroke.
