This is Bjornethun’s first career FSA honor and second for the team in 2015 after Michael Roberts (Issaquah, Wash.) was named last week.
"I'm proud of Kyle," said head coach Pete Fewing. "He has started every game in his career at Seattle U, he's a captain now, and he's a very talented center back. It's great to see him get the goal and be a part of the third shutout in five games. He's a great guy on and off the field so I'm happy for him."
On Friday, Sept. 11, in the Redhawks’ 1-0 shutout at Santa Clara, the starting defender scored the game-winner in the 72nd minute. The goal marked the first of 2015 and third career game-winner for the junior.
Off the field, Bjornethun also excels in the classroom with a 3.14 cumulative GPA as a mechanical engineering major.
Seattle U (3-2-0) returns home to host Harvard (Friday, Sept. 18 – 7:30 pm) and Dartmouth (Sunday, Sept. 20 – 1 pm) this weekend before hosting nationally ranked Washington next Thursday (Sept. 24 – 7 pm) on the WAC Digital Network. The Redhawks open conference play the following weekend (Friday, Oct. 2 vs. UMKC).
The Seattle University athletics department names a Featured Student-Athlete each Tuesday based on performances both in the classroom and in competition.
