Seattle University women’s soccer has been picked, in a vote of the league’s eight head coaches, to win their third straight Western Athletic Conference title in 2015. After back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament in 2013 and 2014 and an appearance in the Second Round last season, the Redhawks look for a WAC threepeat and to advance further into the bracket in the upcoming season.

The Redhawks received six of seven possible first place votes for 47 total points. Grand Canyon (39 points), and UMKC (one first place vote, 38 points) rounded out the top three. Utah Valley (35 points) and CSU Bakersfield (23 points) were voted fourth and fifth while NM State and UTRGV (17 points) tied for sixth and Chicago State (8 points) rounded out the poll.

SU returns six of 10 letterwinners and seven starters from the 2014 squad that went 8-1-1 in WAC play and 15-4-3 overall en route to a NCAA Second Round match vs. No. 10 South Carolina in Chapel Hill, N.C.

Natasha Howe (Mission Viejo, Calif.) and Kiana Kraft (Kent, Wash.) represented Seattle U on the Preseason All-WAC team.

The Redhawks open the season on Thursday, Aug. 13 with an exhibition vs. Trinity Western at 3:30 pm and start the regular season at home versus a pair of Pac-12 foes in Washington State (Friday, Aug. 21 – 7 pm) and Oregon (Saturday, Aug. 23 – 1 pm). The match versus the Cougars will be a rematch of last year’s double overtime thriller, a 2-1 Seattle U victory in the first round of the NCAA Tournament.
