The Seattle University men’s golf team moved up into fourth place as the second round of the 2015 Western Athletic Conference Golf Championships concluded Tuesday on the Gold Course of the Wigwam Golf Resort.

Joe Harvie (Orting, Wash.) posted Seattle U’s best round of the day, starting with birdies on the first and fourth holes. After a bogey on the 10th hole put him at two over par for the day, he birdied the 12th and 16th holes to end the day with a score of even par 72, moving up into a tie for 12th place with a two-round total of 146 (+2).

Kyle Cornett (Mill Creek, Wash.) recovered from a double bogey on the opening hole, collecting three birdies as he shot 75 (+3) to move into a tie for 18th place at 149 (+5). Jamie Hall (Seattle, Wash.) is also in a tie for 18th place at 149 (+5) after shooting 76 (+4) in the second round, earning three birdies and closing with six straight pars.

Ross Kukula (Ocean Park, Wash.) birdied the first and 14th holes, but six bogeys set him back as he shot 76 (+4) to end up in a tie for 22nd place at 150 (+6). Patrick Sato (Bellevue, Wash.) could not maintain the momentum from an opening-hole birdie, shooting 78 (+6) to complete two rounds with a score of 154 (+10), currently tied for 28th place.

As a team, Seattle University shot 299 (+11), moving past Bakersfield into fourth place with a two-round total of 594 (+18). New Mexico State shot 288 (even) to take the outright lead at 575 (-1), seven strokes ahead of Missouri-Kansas City. UMKC’s Mitch Tucker maintained his lead in the individual standings after shooting 71 (-1) with a two-round total of 139 (-5), a two-stroke advantage over Alex Kline of Grand Canyon.

The third and final round of the 2015 WAC Golf Championships is scheduled to begin Wednesday, April 22, at 7 a.m. Seattle University will once again be part of the second wave of golfers, with tee times starting at 7:40 a.m. and continuing every 10 minutes until 8:20 a.m.
