After recently breaking the Seattle University softball program record for career doubles, Bubba Morrow (Auburn, Wash.) has been named Featured Student-Athlete of the Week on GoSeattleU.com for the week of Apr. 6-12, 2015. This is Morrow’s second career honor, also named in February 2013, and the team’s second honor this season after Kayla Shuster-Gonzales (Escondido, Calif.) was named earlier this season.
“Bubba is having another solid season for us this year,” said head coach Dan Powers. “She has been a rock behind the plate the past four seasons and is one of our solid leaders.”
Last weekend, Morrow averaged .500 at the plate in three starts, recording three runs on three hits, adding two doubles and five RBI. Among starters, she led the team in slugging percentage (.833) and on base percentage (.727) over the three-game series at Utah Valley, SU’s first Western Athletic Conference series win of the season.
Morrow recently set the program doubles record with a two-base knock in game two of a doubleheader versus Portland State on Apr. 1, breaking Allegra Wilde’s previous record (32).
Also excelling academically, Morrow currently owns a 3.498 cumulative GPA as a social work major. In 2014, she was also named Academic All-WAC to the NFCA All-America Scholar-Athlete team.
The Redhawks are set to host No. 19 Washington on Wednesday, Apr. 15 at 6 p.m. in their annual StrikeOut Cancer game, an initiative of the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) to benefit cancer research. This year’s game will benefit pancreatic cancer research in honor and memory of Seattle U assistant coach Brandi Gordon’s dad, Ron Gordon.
This weekend, SU will travel to Kansas City, Mo. to face University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) for a three-game conference series on Friday, Apr. 17 and Saturday, Apr. 18.
The Seattle University athletics department names a Featured Student-Athlete each Tuesday based on performances both in the classroom and in competition.
