Softball to Host Nationally Ranked UW, Travel to UMKC

The Redhawks host the Huskies Wednesday in a StrikeOut Cancer game to benefit pancreatic cancer research.

SU to Host Washington, Travel to Kansas City: After a five-game homestand to start the month of April, Seattle University softball is now on a stretch in which they play six of seven games on the road and is coming off a Western Athletic Conference series win last weekend. The Redhawks host Washington on Wednesday, Apr. 15 at 6 p.m. at Logan Field before traveling to Kansas City, Mo. to face UMKC in a three-game conference series.

StrikeOut Cancer Game: Wednesday’s game will be the team’s annual NFCA StrikeOut Cancer game and will benefit pancreatic cancer research. The link to learn more information or donate can be found HERE.

Hit Parade: Paige Bouska is currently riding a 13 game hitting streak dating back to Mar. 21 vs. Loyola Marymount.

Up Next and Looking Ahead: After this week, SU will have just three more home games this season, hosting Bakersfield (Apr. 24-25) for a three-game series on senior weekend. After hosting just three home games over the opening two months of the season, SU is scheduled to host a total of nine in April (already through five as of Apr. 13). All five eligible teams will advance to the WAC Tournament in May.

Bubba Morrow Clinches Seattle U Career Doubles Record: Morrow earned the top spot in Seattle U’s all-time career doubles records (35 as of Apr. 13) with a two-base hit in the third inning of the second game versus Portland State on Apr. 1, surpassing Allegra Wilde’s previous record (32). Morrow and Lisa Maulden continue to break and re-set the record throughout this season.

Climbing the Ladder: Lisa Maulden (34) and Jenny Hurst (30) are also closing in on top spots in SU’s all-time career doubles while Morrow currently sits in second place (30) in SU career home runs (record: 37, Jane Purdy, 2005-08) and second place (122) in career RBI (record: 162, Jane Purdy). Maulden currently ranks third in career RBI (100).

Scouting Washington (35-11, 7-7 Pac-12): The Huskies rank No. 18 in the nation (as of Apr. 13, a new poll will be released on Apr. 14). UW posted their longest win streak of the season, 12 games, from Feb. 27-Mar. 13 but, more recently, have dropped conference series to UCLA, Oregon, and Arizona, sweeping Stanford (Apr. 2-4). Ali Aguilar leads the team at the plate (.443, 55r, 66h, 21 2b, 1 3b, 12 hr, 48 rbi) followed closely by Kelli Suguro (.402, 31r, 51h, 6 2b, 1 3b, 5 hr, 29 rbi). In the circle, Casey Stangel owns a team-low 3.56 ERA le Kasey Stanchek has struck out a team-high 71 batters.

Scouting Kansas City (22-24, 2-7 WAC): UMKC won the series at Bakersfield on the opening weekend of conference play but have since been swept by both Grand Canyon and New Mexico State leading into this weekend. In the same stretch, Kansas City swept a non-conference DH with South Dakota State (Mar. 31) and split a midweek doubleheader with Omaha (Apr. 7). The ‘Roos are led at the plate by Cinda Ramos (.376, 30 r, 59 h, 10 2b, 1 3b, 6 hr, 41 rbi) and Katie Kelley (.375, 22 r, 57 h, 16 2b, 13 hr, 51 rbi while Amber Grove owns a team-low 4.08 ERA. Ramos and Kelley are also members of the UMKC pitching staff, recording 61 and 102 strikeouts, respectively.
