SEATTLE – Seattle University softball (12-26, 1-3 WAC) scored on a Molly Campbell (San Diego, Calif.) homer late in the game but could not overcome two bombs from New Mexico State (28-11, 4-0 WAC) as the Aggies came away with a 7-2 win in Western Athletic Conference play.

New Mexico State added two apiece in the top of the second and third innings, first on a two-RBI homer to left field by Tatum Reedy before a two-RBI single up the middle by Kelsey Dodd.

Campbell cut the deficit in half, 4-2, with a two-run home run in the fifth, driving home Julia Bragado (San Diego, Calif.) who pinch ran for Jenny Hurst (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) after Hurst reached base on a single.

The Aggies would fend off the Redhawks as Fiana Finau hit a three-run home run, NMSU’s second of the day, to give New Mexico State a 7-4 lead through the remainder.

Six different Redhawks recorded a hit apiece as the Aggies narrowly outhit the Redhawks, 7-6.

Mandie Sugita (Rossmoor, Calif.) suffered the loss in the circle giving up seven runs on seven hits while walking six and striking out two. Karysta Donisthorpe picked up the win for NM State allowing two runs on two hits while walking two and striking out five.

NMSU and SU close the series with a doubleheader scheduled to start at 2 p.m. on Saturday, Apr. 4.
