Despite three individual victories by Blaise Wittenauer-Lee (Portland, Ore.) and two other event wins, Seattle University could not overcome the depth of Simon Fraser University as the Clan defeated the Redhawks, 151-111, Saturday afternoon in a dual meet at the Savage Swimming Pool.
Wittenauer-Lee first earned a one-second victory in the 100 meter breaststroke with a time of 1:13.28, followed by a five-second win in the 200 meter breaststroke with a mark of 2:36.89. She concluded her day by finishing first in the 200 meter individual medley with a time of 2:23.53.
The Redhawks picked up two other individual event victories during the meet, starting with Kristin Hoffman’s (Mercer Island, Wash.) victory in the 200 meter freestyle with a time of 2:07.11. Madi Lydig (Spokane, Wash.) touched the wall first in the 200 meter backstroke with a time of 2:19.55.
Bethany Gehrke (Lynnwood, Wash.) finished second in the 800 meter freestyle with a time of 9:23.14. Carlee Bock (Bellingham, Wash.) earned a second-place finish in the 100 meter backstroke in 1:06.45, followed by Lydig in third place in 1:08.62.
Hoffman finished in second place in the 100 meter freestyle in 59.02 seconds, followed by Melissa Randolf (Everett, Wash.) in third place in 1:01.71. In the 100 meter butterfly, Jane Liggett (Portland, Ore.) finished in second place with a time of 1:05.99, followed by Rachael Rodriguez (Round Rock, Texas) in third place in 1:06.40.
Both Seattle U “A” relays finished in second place, starting with the 400 meter medley relay quartet of Bock, Wittenauer-Lee, Liggett, and Hoffman posting a time of 4:23.77. In the 200 meter freestyle relay, Hoffman, Randolf, Rodriguez, and Paige Treff (Orland, Calif.) combined for a mark of 1:51.39.
Seattle University (2-12) will have three weeks to prepare for the Western Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, to take place in San Antonio, Texas, Feb. 25-28.
