The Seattle University men’s golf team showed some consistency on the first day of the Arizona Intercollegiate, ending the second round in 12th place Monday at the tournament hosted by the University of Arizona at the Sewailo Golf Club.

Patrick Sato (Bellevue, Wash.) finished the day as Seattle U’s top performer, recovering from a rough start in his first round by earning three birdies and an eagle to shoot even-par 71 before shooting 74 (+3) in the second round to end up in a tie for 23rd place at 145 (+3). Joe Harvie (Orting, Wash.) made the biggest improvement from the morning to the afternoon, shooting 77 (+6) in the opening round before picking up four birdies against just two bogeys for a second round 69 (-2) to move up into a tie for 29th place at 146 (+4).

Ross Kukula (Ocean Park, Wash.) posted the team’s best first round score, collecting six birdies to shoot 69 (-2) in the morning before a second-round 79 (+8) put Kukula in a tie for 48th place at 148 (+6). Jamie Hall (Seattle, Wash.) shot back-to-back rounds of 76 (+5) to finish the day in a tie for 68th place at 152 (+10), and Kyle Cornett (Mill Creek, Wash.) improved from an opening-round 80 (+9) to a second-round 77 (+6), ending the day in a tie for 81st place at 157 (+15).

As a team, Seattle University put together rounds of 293 (+9) and 296 (+12) to finish the day in 12th place at 589 (+21), ahead of Delaware, Cal State Fullerton, and Loyola Marymount, and just three strokes behind conference rival New Mexico State. With 33 golfers still needing to finish their second rounds after play was called due to darkness, Arizona State leads the team standings by three strokes over Iowa State, with Max Rottluff of the Sun Devils shooting 65 (-6) in the afternoon to take a three-stroke lead into the final day of competition.

After everyone finishes the second round, the third and final round of the Arizona Intercollegiate will take place, with a shotgun start scheduled for 8 a.m. local time (7 a.m. Pacific time).
