LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- Seattle University women’s basketball (4-14, 1-2 WAC) built a lead throughout the first half and would hold it through halftime, but key stops and timely second half baskets for New Mexico State (10-6, 3-0 WAC) would earn the Aggies the 76-66 win.

The Redhawks would score first before the Aggies built a 8-4 lead through the first media timeout. SU would tie the game twice and would regain the lead at 12-10 for the remainder of the half starting at the 12:27 mark on a jumper by Kaylee Best (Seattle, Wash.).

Renee Dillard-Brown (Seattle, Wash.) went 4-for-4 from the line over the next three minutes, sandwiching a Crystal Allen (Fort Worth, Texas) jumper as Seattle U would jump out to an eight point lead, 18-10 with 9:42 before half.

SU would lead by seven two different times in the final five and a half minutes of the half, the first time on two straight three-pointers by Best, before the Aggies powered back to trail by just one, 30-29, at 2:01. SU would respond to lead by four at the half as Claire Metoyer (Desoto, Texas) hit a clutch half court three-pointer at the halftime buzzer.

Seattle U led by as many as six two different times in the first two minutes of the second half on layups by Wilma Afunugo (Plano, Texas) and Taelor Ross (Vancouver, Wash.) before the Aggies’ Shanice Davis hit a three at 16:41 to bring NMSU within one, 39-38.

Sasha Weber added a second straight three to give NM State their first lead since the early first half, 41-39, at 14:58 and they would build it to as many as six, 47-41, with 12:07 remaining.

Allen sunk a pair of free throws at 8:37 to regain the lead for the Redhawks, 52-51, but a Tamera William jumper would take the lead back for the Aggies a minute later and they would extend it to double digits, 64-54, at 4:45.

A jumper by Weber with just under three minutes left would give the Aggies a 14 point lead and they would maintain a double digit lead for the remainder of the contest for the 76-66 win.

Dillard-Brown scored a career-high 12 points for the Redhawks, also grabbing a career-tying seven boards. Ross added a career-tying three blocks while Dillard-Brown also added her first block of the season.

The Redhawks outshot the Aggies from the field, shooting 45.8 percent (22-for-48) to NM State’s 39.1 percent (25-for-64) as well as from behind the arc (31.6 percent to 30.8 percent).

Seattle U returns home next weekend to host Chicago State on Thursday, Jan. 22 at 7pm and Kansas City on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 4pm. They finish out the month of January hosting Bakersfield on Saturday, Jan. 31 at 4pm.
