Seattle University’s top swimmer defeated Northern Colorado’s top finisher in six events Saturday, but the Bears used diving and their depth to hold off the Redhawks, 112-106, while host Air Force also defeated Seattle U, 133-78, in a double dual meet held at the Cadet Natatorium.

The meet started with the quartet of Carlee Bock (Bellingham, Wash.), Blaise Wittenauer-Lee (Portland, Ore.), Jane Liggett (Portland, Ore.), and Paige Treff (Orland, Calif.) finishing second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:50.18. Bethany Gehrke (Lynnwood, Wash.) followed with a second-place finish in the 1000 freestyle in 10:51.55.

Treff finished in third place in the 50 freestyle in 25.06 seconds, followed by Melissa Randolf (Everett, Wash.) in fourth place in 25.40 seconds. In the 200 individual medley, Annika Perry (Reno, Nev.) touched the wall ahead of any Northern Colorado swimmer, finishing third overall with a time of 2:15.80.

Liggett finished in third place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 59.56 seconds, and Kristin Hoffman (Mercer Island, Wash.) earned a second-place finish in the 100 freestyle with a mark of 54.04 seconds, just 1/100th of a second in front of the third-place finisher. Bock posted the third-fastest time in the 100 backstroke with a time of 1:00.76, and Perry finished second in the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.52.

Bock, Rachael Rodriguez (Round Rock, Texas), Sidney Pinger (Tualatin, Ore.), and Hoffman combined for a time of 3:37.32 in the 400 freestyle relay, finishing second in that event. That mark is the fastest posted by the Redhawks this season in the event and just missed the all-time top 10 times list by 28/100ths of a second.

Seattle University (2-11) concludes the dual meet season by traveling north to Burnaby, B.C., to face long-time rival Simon Fraser University Saturday, Jan. 31, starting at 1 p.m. The Redhawks will then prepare for the Western Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championships, to take place in San Antonio, Texas, Feb. 25-28.
