Thanks to a team effort featuring several different winners, the Seattle University women’s swim team posted the top time in every event on its way to a 130-70 victory over Pacific Lutheran University Friday night at the Connolly Center Pool.
Blaise Wittenauer-Lee (Portland, Ore.) posted the top time in two individual events, winning the 500 freestyle with a time of 5:08.79, followed by the best time in the 100 breaststroke with a mark of 1:05.50. Wittenauer-Lee also swam the second leg of the victorious 200 medley relay, joining with Carlee Bock (Bellingham, Wash.), Alexis Martinez (Granite Bay, Calif.), and Melissa Randolf (Everett, Wash.) to post a time of 1:51.15.
Madi Lydig (Spokane, Wash.) earned two individual victories, first in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:36.59, followed by a win in the 100 backstroke in 1:00.03. Kristin Hoffman (Mercer Island, Wash.) finished first in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:57.68, Paige Treff (Orland, Calif.) won the 50 freestyle in 24.74 seconds, and Jane Liggett (Portland, Ore.) touched the wall first in the 100 butterfly in 59.04 seconds. Hoffman, Treff, Liggett, and Rachael Rodriguez (Round Rock, Texas) capped the night by posting the fastest time in the 200 freestyle relay at 1:41.45.
Bethany Gehrke (Lynnwood, Wash.) led a Redhawk 1-2-3 finish in the 400 individual medley with a winning time of 4:40.09, followed by Kate Sabourin (Santa Rose, Calif.) in 4:46.03 and Sidney Pinger (Tualatin, Ore.) in 4:47.13. Pinger later won the 100 freestyle with a time of 54.64 seconds, ahead of Treff’s second place time of 55.58 seconds.
“Everyone who swam tonight fought hard coming off a tough week of training, and they did a great job of supporting each other throughout the night,” Seattle U head coach Craig Nisgor said. “Hopefully they will get some rest tonight and be ready for tomorrow’s meet.”
Seattle University (1-7) takes on Whitworth University in the final home meet of the 2014-15 season Saturday, Jan. 10, starting at 1 p.m. Before the meet, Gehrke, Randolf, and Caroline Van Maren (Bellevue, Wash.) will be honored in Senior Day ceremonies for their contributions to the Redhawk swimming program.
