Seattle U Opens WAC Play, Closes Busy Home Stretch: Seattle University women’s basketball opens Western Athletic Conference play at home for the first time ever after opening league competition on the road the previous two seasons (at Idaho in 2012-13 and at Chicago State/Kansas City in 2013-14). The game also closes a four-game homestand for the Redhawks as well as an overall stretch in which they played 11 of 12 games at home (dating back to Nov. 29).

NEW GAME TIME: To account for the Seahawks’ playoff game vs. Carolina starting at 5:15 p.m. PT and to support the “I’m In” campaign, Saturday’s game has been moved up to 2 p.m. PT.

Home Sweet Home: With a record-high 20 home games this season, SU is already through 13 games of their 2014-15 home schedule, completing 10 of 20 (including exhibitions) prior to the Christmas holiday.

Scouting Utah Valley (6-9): UVU faced a tough non-conference slate and has dropped four of their last five, with their last win coming vs. Omaha on Dec. 29, 59-57. Earlier this week (Jan. 6), Utah Valley dropped to 0-2 this season vs. Southern Utah with a narrow 66-61 loss in Cedar City, Utah. The Redhawks and Wolverines have faced several common opponents in non-conference play this season including San Francisco (USF won, 69-50), Idaho State (ISU won, 68-67), and Montana (UM won, 68-44). Rhaiah Spooner-Knight (14.3 ppg) and Mariah Seals (11.9 ppg) are each averaging in double figures for the Wolverines while Karlee Norris is grabbing a team-high 8.1 rebounds per game.

High Scoring Performances: On Jan. 3 vs. CSU Northridge, Kaylee Best scored 23 points and hit five three-pointers, both good for new career highs. On Jan. 4 vs. CSU Fullerton, Wilma Afunugo grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds.
