Seattle U Starts Four Game Homestand Amidst Four Games in Seven Days: After returning from Christmas break with their non-conference road finale at Oregon, Seattle University women’s basketball returns home for a four-game homestand, three of which will take place as part of four games in a seven day span. The Redhawks host UC Santa Barbara on Wednesday, Dec. 31 before hosting CSU Northridge (Jan. 3) and CSU Fullerton (Jan. 4) on back-to-back days this weekend. Home Sweet Home: With a record-high 20 home games this season, SU is already through half of their 2014-15 home schedule going into this week, completing 10 of 20 (including exhibitions) prior to the Christmas holiday. The Redhawks will be through 13 of 20 home games after this weekend, by the time Seattle U students return from the holiday break.
Upcoming Ticket Promotions: Fans will receive free admission to the Dec. 31 game by presenting a ticket from the Seattle U men’s basketball game on Dec. 30 at the ticket table when entering the game. The pair of games on Jan. 3 and 4 will also be a 2-for-1 as a ticket from the Jan. 3 game will serve as free admission to the Jan. 4 game when presenting the previous day’s ticket at the entrance.
Scouting UC Santa Barbara: The Gauchos will face the Redhawks in the middle of a three game road swing, sandwiched in between contests at Stanford and SU’s fellow WAC foe, Bakersfield. After winning their exhibition vs. Occidental, UCSB has yet to win a regular season contest in 2014. Their closest contest came on Nov. 17 vs. Idaho, a 47-44 loss. Jemerigbe Onome leads the team in scoring, averaging 8.2 ppg, while Clair Watkins leads the Gauchos in rebounding, averaging 6.0 rpg. The Redhawks and Gauchos are 1-1 all-time, with their last meeting won by SU, 60-55, in the season-opener in Seattle on Nov. 12, 2011.
Scouting CSU Northridge: The Matadors recorded a perfect November, going 6-0 vs. Idaho, Sacramento State, BYU, Portland, Montana State, and Texas Southern. Most recently, however, UCSB has lost their last two games (vs. Florida Gulf Coast on Dec. 28 and St. Joseph’s on Dec. 29) and lost three of their last five, also falling to USC in overtime on Dec. 9. Ashlee Guay leads the Matadors in scoring (15.8) while Janae Sharpe (14.6) and Cinnamon Lister (11.5 ppg) follow closely behind. On the boards, Camielle Mahlknecht leads the team, averaging 8.5 rpg. Ashlee Guay was recently named Big West Conference Player of the Week (Dec. 22) for recording 20.5 ppg as CSUN recorded historic victories at Northern Arizona and San Diego State. The Redhawks are 1-0 all-time vs. the Matadors, winning 69-51 on Feb. 10, 2010.

Of note, on Nov. 29, CSU Fullerton topped SU’s fellow WAC member, New Mexico State, 66-51, at the Hotel Encanto Thanksgiving Classic in Las Cruces, N.M. Chante Miles (18.9 ppg) and Kathleen Iwuoha (11.7 ppg) lead the Titans, each averaging in double figures. Iwuoha also grabs a team-high 6.6 rpg through the first 11 games. The Titans will face fellow WAC foe Kansas City at home on Wednesday, Dec. 31 before making the trek to Seattle. Seattle U and CSUF last faced last season on Dec. 21, 2013, a close contest the Titans would win, 55-53. Fullerton is 3-0 all-time vs. SU, also facing during the 2009-10 and 2010-11 seasons.
