Marc Chandonnet, head coach of the Seattle University golf teams, has announced that Ryan Hunt (Pitt Meadows, B.C.) signed a National Letter of Intent during the November signing period to join the Redhawk golf program starting in the 2015-16 academic year.
Hunt is one of the top junior golfers in Canada, competing for Team Canada at both the North America Cup in Bluffton, S.C., and the Euro Junior Golf Cup at historic St. Andrews Golf Club in Scotland. He helped Team Canada win both competitions, posting a 6-2-1 match play record in the two competitions combined.
In mid-July, Hunt finished in sixth place at the Maple Leaf Junior Tour/PGA British Columbia Junior Tournament. He has already graduated from Thomas Haney Secondary School, where he received the Governor General’s Academic Medal for earning the highest grade point average in his class. Hunt finished with a 4.0 grade point average as he earned straight A’s throughout his time in secondary school.
"Ryan is a very strong athletic competitor who is also tops in his class academically. We are very excited to add him to our roster in the fall of 2015, and we believe Ryan already embodies all of the traits our institution strives to instill in our students. Therefore, we see him fitting in immediately in all areas, and we are confident he will have a great impact as a student-athlete," Chandonnet said.
The Seattle University men’s golf team finished its fall season with back-to-back second place finishes at tournaments hosted by the University of Utah and Georgetown University. The Redhawks return to action Jan. 26-27 at the Arizona Intercollegiate in Tucson, Ariz. Seattle U will host the second annual Redhawk Invitational at Chambers Bay April 6-7, just two months before the club hosts the U.S. Open.
