The Seattle University women’s swim team lost to Washington State University, 204-58, in a dual meet held Friday evening at the Gibb Pool.
Madi Lydig (Spokane, Wash.) continued the solid start to her collegiate career, finishing third in both the 100 backstroke in 59.99 seconds and in the 200 backstroke in 2:06.12. Her 100 backstroke time is now ninth on the Seattle U all-time list, while she lowered the fourth-best time in program history in the 200 backstroke from the mark she posted Oct. 10 at Oregon State.
Blaise Wittenauer-Lee (Portland, Ore.) finished third in the 100 breaststroke in 1:05.71, fourth in the 100 freestyle in 53.89 seconds, and third in the 400 individual medley in 4:36.07. Emma Foster (Clancy, Mont.) touched the wall third in both the 500 freestyle (5:22.02) and the 1000 freestyle (10:59.12), with Allie McGavock (Glen Ellyn, Ill.) right behind her in fourth place with in-season bests in both the 500 freestyle (5:25.82) and 1000 freestyle (11:01.76).
Annika Perry (Reno, Nev.) also performed well, finishing third in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:26.56 and fifth in the 100 breaststroke in 1:07.27. Jane Liggett (Portland, Ore.) picked up third-place finishes in both the 100 butterfly in 58.59 seconds and the 200 butterfly in 2:12.40.
Kristin Hoffman (Mercer Island, Wash.) finished third in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:56.76. She then anchored the 400 freestyle relay, joining Alexis Martinez (Granite Bay, Calif.), Melissa Randolf (Everett, Wash.), and Rachael Rodriguez (Round Rock, Texas) for a third place finish in 3:40.94.
“Overall, we did not swim very well. I am happy with the performances of Madi, Annika, and Allie, but the team did not get the job done,” Seattle U head coach Craig Nisgor said. “We are hoping to rebound tomorrow, we need to work on the details, and we are hoping to find some good stuff, as I know they are capable of better results.”
The Seattle University women’s swim team remains in the Palouse, heading across the state line to Moscow, Idaho, to face the Vandals Saturday, Nov. 8, starting at 12 noon. Seattle U will also face Bakersfield in both men’s and women’s swimming at the University of Idaho Swim Center.
