The Bobcats jumped out to a 9-0 lead early behind back-to-back layups by Alexa Dawkins before the Redhawks came within four, 9-5, on a three-pointer by Kaylee Best (Seattle, Wash.) and a layup by Taelor Ross (Vancouver, Wash.).
Ross drove in back-to-back layups near the 15-minute mark of the first half to bring Seattle U within four, 16-12, by 14:19 and would come within five two more times over the next two minutes before three scoreless minutes for either team.
Kalli Durham broke the scoring drought with a three-pointer to give MSU their first double digit lead, 26-16, with 10:09 remaining before the half.
Claire Metoyer’s (Desoto, Texas) first career three-pointer at the 6:03 mark and a three-point play by Best near the five-minute mark of the first half would bring the Redhawks back within nine each time but Montana State would build their largest lead of the half, 48-31, at the halftime buzzer.
The Bobcats would lead by as many as 19 early in the first half before back-to-back three’s by Best brought the Redhawks within 11, 50-39, at 17:04, but it would be as close as they would come as Montana State led by double digits for the remainder of the contest.
Despite the loss, several Redhawks recorded career high performances including Wilma Afunugo (Plano, Texas) with 10 rebounds, Metoyer with 13 points, and Ashlyn Lewey (Spokane, Wash.) with three steals. Ross led Seattle U with a season-best 15 points.
From the field, Montana State led with 46.2 percent (30-for-65) to Seattle U’s 29.9 percent (20-for-67). The Bobcats also led from behind the arc and at the line.
The Redhawks outrebounded the Bobcats, 44-40, also leading in steals, 15-12.
