“It was our ninth shutout in 18 games and Shane Haworth made three saves in regulation and one in overtime that were very impressive and sharp,” said head coach Pete Fewing. “He did a great job of keeping the ball out of the net. I’m very pleased with a shutout at this point and our first round bye in next weekend’s conference tournament. We had some important battles here in the last two games and both goalkeepers made very important saves to preserve the clean sheet.”
Seattle U’s best early scoring opportunity in the first half came in the 28th minute as Hamza Haddadi (Shoreline, Wash.) fired a header shot on goal, but Nicolas Clever came up with a big save in goal.
Seattle U earned five corner kicks over the contest, but could not capitalize on the scoring opportunities.
Shane Haworth (Puyallup, Wash.) came up with three game-preserving saves in the first 20 minutes of the second half before Christian Duarte’s shot hit the crossbar in the 64th minute.
In the first overtime period, Alex Roldan (Pico Rivera, Calif.) fired a shot on goal in the 94th minute, but Duarte continued to preserve the shutout in goal for Bakersfield. Chase Hanson (Kent, Wash.) took the only shot of the second overtime, but neither team could score as the game ended in a scoreless draw.
In goal, Haworth made seven saves in his ninth shutout of the season while Clever made two saves as the ‘Runners outshot the Redhawks, 13-8, over the contest.
The Redhawks finished the regular season on a five game unbeaten streak and won or tied seven of their last eight.
