The Seattle University cross country team was represented Sunday morning at the PNTF Cross Country Championships at Lower Woodland Park, including two seniors who completed their collegiate cross country careers.
In the women's six-kilometer race, senior Haley Kruell (Portland, Ore.) finished her collegiate cross country career with a 35th place finish in 25:56, right around the same time she posted over the exact same course two weeks ago at the Emerald City Open. Johanna Erickson (Edgewood, Wash.) finished in 28th place in 24:45, 16 seconds quicker than her Emerald City Open time, and Alisa Poplawski (Newcastle, Wash.) finished in 38th place in 28:29.
Miles Hille (Woodinville, Wash.) finished his collegiate cross country career with a 32nd place finish in the men's 10-kilometer race with a time of 37:36. Running unattached, Jacques Hebert, in his first-ever cross country race longer than five kilometers, finished in 25th place with a time of 35:46, and Tyler Flannery finished in 31st place in 37:17.
Also of note, assistant coach Uli Steidl won the masters six-kilometer race with a time of 20:41, three seconds ahead of his nearest competitor. He then finished fifth in the men's 10-kilometer race with a time of 33:14, behind Redhawk alum and 2012 WAC cross country champion Erik Barkhaus, who finished in third place in 32:58. Matthew McClement, another Seattle U alum, finished seventh in 33:17, and volunteer assistant coach Caroline Austin crossed the finish line fifth in the women's six-kilometer race in 22:09.
The seven men and seven women who earned a spot on the travel squad for regionals will head to Stanford, Calif., for the NCAA West Regional Meet, to be held at the Stanford Golf Course Friday, Nov. 14.
