“Three goals is always a positive and I thought we managed the second half well, which we haven’t been as good at the past couple of weeks,” said head coach Pete Fewing. “Houston Baptist is a talented team and they’ve got some really good weapons, but I thought we did a great job of managing the game and staying on task. Ian Hines-Ike’s goal off a free kick was outstanding, Hamza [Haddadi] now has three goals in three games, and Kyle Bjornethun got his third goal as a defender. It was a solid team win – we had a lot of guys on the field – and we’re ready for Sunday against Incarnate Word.”
The Redhawks scored two quick goals in just over the first 10 minutes of play, including the game-winner, a free kick by Ian Hines-Ike (Littleton, Colo.) that sailed completely over the heads of the Houston Baptist defenders in the early 11th minute.
Hamza Haddadi (Shoreline ,Wash.) struck first in the sixth minute with his third goal in as many games on a cross in front of the box by Alex Roldan (Pico Rivera, Calif.).
The Huskies narrowed their deficit in the 13th minute on a header by Tobenna Uzo off a corner kick by Gustavo Alvarado as they trailed 2-1 with just over a minute before halftime.
Kyle Bjornethun (Snohomish, Wash.) would score his third career goal to put Seattle U ahead, 3-1, off a corner kick by Hines-Ike with just a minute left before the half. The halftime margin would hold as shots nearly equaled in the second half with the Redhawks outshooting the Huskies, 6-5, in the second period of play.
In goal, Shane Haworth (Puyallup, Wash.) made six saves while Houston Baptist starter Kevin Suarez made three saves, allowing all three goals. Philip Poser entered for HBU with 36 and a half minutes left to play, making one save.
The Redhawks close their regular home season on Sunday, Nov. 2 as they host Incarnate Word at 1 p.m. Fans are encouraged to arrive early as this year’s senior class will be honored prior to the match.
