Seattle U Women’s Soccer to Honor Seniors in Final Regular Season Home Weekend: This weekend, Seattle University women’s soccer will host current WAC leader, Kansas City, in a key league matchup on Friday before honoring this year’s senior class (Stephanie Verdoia, Alyssa Campagna, Jacqui Wallis, Aris Coover, Renae Russell, Taylor Ritzman, Kiana Kraft) on Sunday as they host Chicago State. Friday’s match will be broadcast on the WAC Digital Network and links to the broadcast, live video on Sunday, and live stats for both matches are on the women’s soccer schedule page at GoSeattleU.com.

Tweet-Your-Seat/Social Media Night on Friday: Fans who “like” and “follow” the three main Seattle U Athletics social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram) will see a special ticket offer on Thursday to reward our social media fans. Friday will also be a “tweet your seat” night as fans in attendance are encouraged to tweet a photo of themselves enjoying the game during the first half to @su_athletics with the hashtag #tweetyourseat. At halftime, a winner will be chosen and will receive a Seattle U prize pack.

Ticket Deals: Social media followers will see a special ticket deal on the three main SU Athletics Facebook channels on Thursday for Friday night’s match (see details below). As this weekend is also Family Weekend at Seattle U, on top of Seattle U students receiving free admission with their student ID, additional family members will be admitted for $3 if the SU student shows their ID at the gate.

Verdoia Named Senior CLASS Award Top 10 Finalist: Announced as a top 30 candidate in September, Stephanie Verdoia was named a Top 10 Finalist for the 2014 Senior CLASS Award, one of the most prestigious awards for collegiate senior student-athletes, which celebrates accomplishments in four areas - classroom, community, character, and competition. Fan voting comprises 1/3 of the total vote for the winner, which will be announced at the 2014 Women’s College Cup championships in December. Fans can vote once per day until Nov. 24 at www.SeniorCLASSAward.com.

Scouting Kansas City (10-3-2, 6-0-0 WAC): The ‘Roos are currently riding a program-high seven consecutive wins, sitting atop the WAC standings coming into this weekend. UMKC’s last loss was on Sept. 14 at Kansas, a match they lost, 1-0, before beginning the winning streak at Creighton, 2-0, on Sept. 19. Kara Priest leads the team offensively with six goals while three others have at least four goals and three more have three goals. In goal, Nina Tzianos has earned the starting spot, appearing in 14 of 15 games and making 77 saves behind a 0.62 GAA, as well as six shutouts, allowing just nine goals in over 1300 minutes of play this season. Last season, the Redhawks blanked the ‘Roos, 3-0, in all three meetings including twice during the regular season and in the WAC tournament championship match.

Scouting Chicago State (1-13-1, 0-5-1 WAC): Most recently, the first year team fell to Bakersfield, 3-1, on Oct. 17 before taking Grand Canyon to double overtime but ultimately falling, 3-2, on Oct. 19. Tony Tommasi is at the helm of the program, coming to CSU with 12 years of collegiate head coaching experience, most recently at Buena Vista in Storm Lake, Iowa. He began his career as an assistant coach at Mississippi State in the late 1990’s.  Jullian Coggins leads the team with five goals, two assists, 12 points, and 24 shots while, in goal, four different keepers have seen time (Carrie Hepp has started six and made 10 appearances in 15 matches, making a team-high 73 saves).

WAC Winning Streak: Seattle U women’s soccer recorded a 15-game regular season conference winning streak and nation-leading 17 total conference game winning streak (including conference tournament games) from Sept. 20, 2013 to Oct. 5, 2014.

Verdoia Named Disney Soccer/NSCAA Division I Women’s National Player of the Week (Sept. 29-Oct. 5): After scoring both game-winners at Grand Canyon and Bakersfield on Oct. 3 and 5, as well as recording a career high seven points (two goals, three assists) at CSUB, Stephanie Verdoia was named Disney Soccer/NSCAA Division I Women’s Soccer National Player of the Week. She was also named to the TopDrawerSoccer National Team of the Week for her efforts.

WAC Tournament All-Session Tickets Now on Sale: All session tickets are now on sale for the Western Athletic Conference men’s and women’s soccer tournaments hosted by Seattle U. The women’s tournament will take place on Nov. 6-7, 9 while the men’s tournament will take place the following weekend on Nov. 14-15, 16.
