“It is nice to head home this weekend with two victories on the road,” said head coach Julie Woodward. “We started a little slow today but we were able to have a productive second half. I feel very fortunate that our depth provided us with a spark this weekend. Sydney [Carlson] and Alyssa [Campagna] gave us some really good minutes and Isy Guerry had a great weekend as well.”
Stephanie Verdoia (Salt Lake City, Utah) would take two of Seattle U’s opening three shots before putting SU ahead, 1-0, in the 15th minute on an assist by Taylor Ritzman (Holladay, Utah).
Ritzman would make it a 2-0 advantage with a goal of her own in the 58th minute off a rebound off the post. Five minutes later, Verdoia would bump the Redhawks to 3-0, adding her second of the match, 15th of the season.
Sydney Carlson (Bellevue, Wash.), coming in off the bench, added a final goal for insurance, the first of her career, in the 77th minute as the Redhawks came away with the 4-0 shutout. Rosalie Sittauer (Everett, Wash.) and Isabella Guerry (San Juan Capistrano, Calif.) recorded their first career assists on the goal.
The Redhawks outshot the Broncs, 22-1, including 16 shots on goal. Verdoia led all players on the field with seven shots, all on goal, while Natasha Howe (Mission Viejo, Calif.) recorded four. Celia Vaughn (Gig Harbor, Wash.) earned a career high three shots.
In goal, Brianna Smallidge (Port Orchard, Wash.) and Aris Coover (Bellevue, Wash.) combined for the shutout while Erica Gonzalez made 12 saves in the complete game loss for UTPA.
Seattle U returns to the Emerald City for their final regular season weekend at home as they host Kansas City, the current WAC leaders, on Friday, Oct. 24 at 7 p.m. and Chicago State on Sunday, Oct. 26 at 12 noon. This year’s senior class will be honored prior to Sunday’s match.
