The Seattle University women’s golf team combined for its best round of the inaugural Pat Lesser Harbottle Invitational, moving up to finish in fifth place after Tuesday’s third and final round of the tournament held at Tacoma Country and Golf Club.
“I am proud of the way my team improved today to finish in fifth place within this impressive field,” Seattle U head women’s golf coach Marc Chandonnet said. “Amanda deserved to finish in the top 10, as she played well, especially up against the caliber of players that were here over the past three days.”
Amanda Beyke (Federal Way, Wash.) played a steady round, earning 16 pars as she shot 74 (+2) to end up in a tie for 10th place in the final individual standings at 225 (+9). Beyke finished the tournament tied for second among the 77-player field in par-five scoring at three under par and tied for seventh in par three scoring at even par.
Alexus Song (Auburn, Wash.) shot one under par on the front nine as she moved up 18 spots into a tie for 29th place at 235 (+19) after shooting 75 (+3) in the final round. Ellen Brantberg (Stockholm, Sweden) also finished in a tie for 29th place at 235 after shooting 78 (+6) Tuesday, including three birdies.
Jamie Huo (Kent, Wash.) steadied herself during her final stretch to shoot 78 for a three-round total of 236 (+20), finishing in a tie for 32nd place. Dorsey Addicks (Big Sky, Mont.) earned three birdies, including on her final hole of the day, to finish in a tie for 43rd place at 239 (+23) after shooting 79 (+7) in the final round.
Playing as an individual, Monica Keo (Kaneohe, Hawaii) posted her best round of the tournament, collecting three birdies on the back nine in shooting 78 Tuesday for a 54-hole total of 241 (+25), good enough for a tie for 51st place. Juhee Lee (Wilsonville, Ore.) shot her third straight 81 (+9) to finish in a tie for 56th place at 243 (+27), while Tori Hoff (Orinda, Calif.) also shot 81 in the final round to end up in a tie for 60th place at 246 (+30).
As a team, Seattle U combined for a personal tournament-best round of 305 (+17), moving up into fifth place in the final team standings at 927 (+63). The University of Washington dominated the tournament, placing six golfers among the top eight as it won by 34 strokes with a 54-hole total of 863 (-1). Jing Yan of the Huskies shot the only sub-70 round of the entire tournament, needing her 69 (-3) to tie Grand Canyon’s Charlotte Jaengkit for the individual lead at 215 (-1), and then Yan shot par on the first playoff hole to earn medalist honors.
The Seattle University women’s golf team concluded its fall season by hosting its first-ever collegiate tournament. The Redhawks return to competition Feb. 9-10 at the Matador Invitational, hosted by Cal State Northridge at the Wood Ranch Golf Club in Simi Valley, Calif.
