In a historic outing, the first time Seattle University women’s tennis has sent student-athletes to the USTA ITA Women’s Northwest Regional Championships since the rebirth of the program, the Redhawks continued the historic feats on day one.

Michelle Lui (Bellevue, Wash.) defeated Washington’s Capucine Gregoire, 2-6, 6-0, 6-2, in the first round of singles action while Madison Maloney (Idaho Falls, Idaho) defeated Cal Poly’s Zoe Oedekerk, 2-6, 6-1, 6-3.

In the round of 64, both Lui and Maloney fell to USF’s Andrea Ka and St. Mary’s Manji, respectively. They will play in consolation matches later this weekend.

In doubles play, Lui and partner Kelli Woodman (Denver, Colo.) moved on with a win over Eastern Washington’s Erin Blessing/Dani Young, 8-4.
