Seattle University women’s soccer’s Kelly Beck (Tacoma, Wash.) has been named Western Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week for the week of Aug. 25-31. This is her first career honor and second straight for the team, as Stephanie Verdoia (Salt Lake City, Wash.) was named Offensive POW last week.

Beck anchored a defense that allowed just one goal in the team’s 4-1 victory over Northern Illinois at the OHANA Hotels and Resorts No Ka Oi in Honolulu. She was the lone Redhawk to play all 90 minutes in the win. She also contributed offensively, assisting Taylor Ritzman’s (Holladay, Utah) first goal of the match with a corner kick.

This season, Beck has recorded three starts in as many games and one assist. Beck was also named GoSeattleU.com Featured Student-Athlete of the Week last week for her performance in the team's opening weekend.

The Redhawks improved to 2-1-0 with wins this season over Idaho (Aug. 22) and Northern Illinois (Aug. 30), and face Hawai’i tonight at 8 p.m. PT. A link to live stats is on the women’s soccer schedule page at GoSeattleU.com.

New Mexico State’s Jennae Cambra and UTPA’s Aimie Inthoulay were named co-Offensive Player of the Week. Cambra scored both goals in the team’s 2-1 win over Incarnate Word, the Aggies’ first win of the season. She has also scored all four NMSU goals this season, recording 11 shots on the week. Inthoulay became the first Bronc in program history to score two goals in a single match in the team’s 4-0 win over Grambling State.
