Thanks to the only two under-par rounds of the entire tournament, the Seattle University women’s golf team moved up into third place at the conclusion of the 2014 Western Athletic Conference Women’s Golf Championships after Sunday’s third round at Longbow Golf Club.
Dorsey Addicks (Big Sky, Mont.) used a birdie at the eighth hole, and eagle on the ninth hole, and a birdie at the 11th hole to move to three under par. Although she finished her round with consecutive bogeys, Addicks still shot one-under-par 71 for a cumulative total of 236 (+20), finishing in a tie for eighth place in the individual standings.
Amanda Beyke (Federal Way, Wash.) also finished in a tie for eighth place at 236 (+20) after a final-round 71 (-1). Beyke collected four birdies against just three bogeys in her round, completing the tournament with 28 pars, tied for 11th-most among the 45-player field.
Nicole Gaddie (Salt Lake City, Utah) shot her best round of the weekend, posting a final round score of 79 (+7) that included a birdie on the 18th hole, the final hole in the collegiate career for the senior. Gaddie finished the tournament in 27th place with a cumulative score of 252 (+36).
Jamie Huo (Kent, Wash.) played steady on the front nine before struggling on the back nine, shooting 82 (+10) for a 54-hole total of 249 (+33), tying for 23rd place. Juhee Lee (Manhattan, Ore.) picked up birdies on the 15th and 16th holes to finish the weekend in a tie for 31st place at 257 (+41) after a final-round 81 (+9).
As a team, Seattle U combined for its second-best single-round score of the entire year at 302 (+14), also the second-best final-round score among the nine-team field. The Redhawks moved ahead of Kansas City into third place in the final standings with a three-round score of 965 (+101). New Mexico State came from behind with a tournament-best 295 (+7) to win the WAC title and the NCAA automatic bid by six strokes over Idaho, with the Vandals’ Leilanie Kim winning medalist honors by four strokes.
Gaddie is the only graduating senior from this year’s Seattle University women’s golf roster, giving head coach Marc Chandonnet an experienced squad to work with in the 2014-15 academic year.
