Seattle University softball (10-13) held UC Santa Barbara (13-5) to a 2-0 victory in the first game with solid defense but lack of offensive output before falling, 10-2, to host Nevada (11-8).

"We came out flat today and weren't able to make adjustments at the plate," said head coach Dan Powers. "Alyssa threw a great game but we didn't provide the same run support as last week. Bubba hit a big home run [in the second game] but that was all we were able to put together. We'll get some rest and get back after it tomorrow."

Seattle U will face UCSB (9 a.m.) and Nevada (11:30 a.m.) on Sunday, Mar. 9 to close out the trip to Reno.

Game 1: UC Santa Barbara 2, Seattle U 0

Sarah Petosa (Federal Way, Wash.) reached base for the Redhawks, hit by a pitch, in the first but SU would not reach base again through the first three innings. Two UCSB runners reached base in the bottom of the first but SU was able to strand them to end the inning.

The Gauchos’ Kristen Clark and Arianna Palomares would go on to score in the bottom of the third on back-to-back hits, broken up by a strikeout, and the 2-0 lead would prove to be enough to earn the win.

SU had their best chances to tie or take the lead, leaving two runners apiece on base in the fourth and seventh innings. Petosa reached as far as third in the top of the fourth.

Four different Redhawks earned hits in the loss while Palomares led UCSB with two.

In the circle, Alyssa Reuble (Lynnwood, Wash.) was handed the loss, giving up both runs on two hits while walking one and striking out five in six innings pitched. Andriana Collins earned the win for the Gauchos, striking out four in seven innings of work.

Game 2: Nevada 10, Seattle U 2

The Redhawks started hot, taking a 2-0 lead in the top of the first as Bubba Morrow (Auburn, Wash.) hit a 2 RBI home run to left field, driving in Isabella Geronimo (San Mateo, Calif.).

A big second and fourth inning for Nevada, however, would prove to be the dagger as they added five in the second and four more in the fourth. Three of their four runs in the second unearned, one SU error would prove to be key in extending the inning. In the fourth, a 2RBI double to center field by Ashley Butera would lead the way.

SU left one on base in the fifth and sixth and a final RBI double in the sixth by Megan Sweet would seal the deal as the Wolf Pack came away with the win in six innings.

Geronimo led the Redhawks with two hit as they were outhit, 9-6.

In the circle, Lindsay Davis (Palo Cedro, Calif.) allowed all 10 runs on nine hits while walking and striking out three in five innings pitched. McKenna Isenberg earned the win for the Wolf Pack, walking one and striking out two in the complete game outing.
