Seattle University softball (11-20) opened their 2014 home schedule with a 7-0 shutout over Northwest University (1-14), thanks in part to two home runs and key hits in the opening two innings.

The Redhawks stranded one NU runner on base in the first and two more in the second and capitalized on scoring opportunities over the opening two innings.

In SU’s opening inning, Bubba Morrow (Auburn, Wash.) hit a 2RBI home run to left field, driving in Jenny Hurst (Laguna Niguel, Calif.) who had reached base on a walk.

The Redhawks added five more runs in the bottom of the second on just two hits. Isabella Geronimo (San Mateo, Calif.) hit a single, advancing to second on an error, driving in three runs. Hurst would add two more on a 2RBI home run, bringing Geronimo home.

Northwest went three-and-out in two of the next three innings, earning a hit in the top of the fourth. The Redhawks left two runners apiece on base in the third and fifth innings and could not capitalize on further scoring chances, but came away with the victory.

Geronimo and Morrow led the Redhawks with two hits apiece while Hurst scored a team-high two runs.

Lindsay Davis (Palo Cedro, Calif.) pitched the entire game for the Redhawks, giving up just five hits while walking one and striking out eight. Kierston Perry gave up all seven runs for the Eagles on eight hits while walking three and striking out one in the two inning outing. Kelli Peckham entered in relief for the final four innings, allowing the final two hits while walking three and striking out three.

Seattle U is set to open Western Athletic Conference play at New Mexico State this weekend, facing the Aggies for a single game on Friday, Mar. 28 at 5 p.m. PT and a doubleheader on Saturday, Mar. 29 at 3 p.m. PT.
