The Streak: Seattle U recorded a seven-game winning streak from Feb. 15 vs. Portland State to Mar. 2 vs. Santa Clara. This was the team’s longest streak since moving to the Division I level. Their last streak of seven games or longer was 11 games from Feb. 1-Mar. 1, 2008.
Geronimo Named espnW Player of the Week: Isabella Geronimo was named one of espnW’s Players of the Week for the week of Feb. 24-Mar. 2 after scoring nine runs, batting .652 (15-for-23), and recording five doubles. She had at least two hits in every game as the Redhawks went 5-0 at the Santa Clara Marriott Invitational vs. Boston U, Santa Clara, and UC Davis.
Scouting Weber State (11-7): The Wildcats split last weekend at the SpringHill Suites Invitational, topping Valparaiso and Indiana to start the weekend before dropping the final two contests versus the same opponents. On Feb. 28, they topped Seattle U’s fellow WAC foe, New Mexico State, 5-3, at the Eller Media Stadium Class in Las Vegas. On Mar. 4, MaCauley Flint earned her third Big Sky Conference Pitcher of the Week honor this season.
Scouting Fairleigh Dickinson (5-5): The Knights won two games, one vs. Santa Clara and one vs. Sacramento State at last weekend’s Mustang Classic hosted by Cal Poly and are set to face UC Riverside for a doubleheader on Mar. 12 before this weekend’s tournament. Fairleigh Dickinson was picked to finish sixth in the Northeast Conference prior to the start of the season. Earlier this season, junior Megan Reiner was named Northeast Conference Pitcher of the Week for allowing no runs, striking out 12, and holding all opponents to three hits at the Spartan Clash at Norfolk State.
Scouting San Diego (8-10): The Toreros went 4-1 last weekend at the Highlander Classic in Riverside, Calif., topping Utah State, UC Riverside (twice), and Idaho State and are set to host Weber State for a doubleheader on Mar. 13 prior to this weekend’s tournament. Sophomore Mary Grabowski was named WCC Player of the Week, announced on Mar. 10, hitting .389 with a team-high six RBI last weekend. For the season, Grabowski leads the team in RBI (11) and is second in runs (seven), total bases (25), average (.333), slugging percentage (.596), and on-base percentage (.380). The Toreros are set to play their next 22 games at home.
