The Seattle University men’s golf team matched its first-round score in Tuesday’s third round to stay in 11th place at the Lamkin Grips San Diego Classic, co-hosted by San Diego State University and the University of San Diego at the San Diego Country Club.
David Torres (Armenia, Colombia) shot his third consecutive 76 (+4) to end up as the top Redhawk finisher in a tie for 42nd place at 228 (+12). Ross Kukula (Ocean Park, Wash.) also shot 76 in the third round to finish in a tie for 48th place at 230 (+14), as did Kyle Cornett (Mill Creek, Wash.) after posting a final round score of 79 (+7).
Luka Karaula (Zapresic, Croatia) shot the team’s best round of the tournament at one-over-par 73, moving up into a tie for 59th place at 233 (+17). Ahren Young (Renton, Wash.) finished in a tie for 76th place with a cumulative score of 242 (+26) after shooting 81 (+9) in the final round.
As a team, Seattle U combined for a third-round score of 304 (+16) for a 54-hole total of 920 (+56). Southern California won the team title after a final round of 280 (-8) gave the Trojans a seven-stroke victory over San Diego State, while Xander Schauffele of the Aztecs earned medalist honors with a three-round score of 205 (-11), two strokes ahead of USC’s Rico Hoey.
The Seattle University men’s golf team will head to Primm Valley, Nev., next week for the Jackrabbit Invitational, hosted by South Dakota State University at the Primm Valley Golf Club.
