After struggling in the first round, the Seattle University men’s golf team improved to shoot an under-par score in the second round to move up into fourth place Sunday after 36 holes of the Colleton River Collegiate, hosted by Michigan State University at the Colleton River Plantation Club.
David Torres (Armenia, Colombia) played well throughout the day, following a first round of one-over-par 73 with a second round of one-under-par 71 to end the day in a tie for third place at even-par 144, just one stroke behind a two-way tie for the individual lead at one-under-par 143. Torres collected seven birdies in the two rounds, tied for ninth in the field in that category.
Ross Kukula (Ocean Park, Wash.) and Luka Karaula (Zapresic, Croatia) both finished the day in a tie for 16th place at four-over-par 148, but they arrived at that total in different ways. Kukula was consistent, shooting 74 (+2) in each round, while Karaula followed a first-round 78 (+6) with a second-round 70 (-2) to move up in the individual standings.
Ahren Young (Renton, Wash.) improved from a first-round 79 (+7) to a second-round 72 (even) to post a cumulative total of 151 (+7) for a tie for 26th place, helped by his tournament-leading score of three-under-par on the par-three holes. Patrick Sato (Bellevue, Wash.) followed a 78 (+6) with a 75 (+3) to end up in a tie for 33rd place at 153 (+9).
