Paced by a career-best second-place finish by sophomore Juhee Lee (Manhattan, Ore.), the Seattle University women’s golf team ended up in second place at the Firestone Grill Cal Poly Invitational Tuesday at the Cypress Ridge Golf Course.

Lee posted the first below-par round of her collegiate career, shooting one-under-par 72 in the second round to finish the tournament in a tie for second place at even-par 146. She finished in a tie for second place among the entire field in both birdies with eight and in par-four scoring at one over par, plus she was tied for fourth in par-five scoring at two under par.

Jamie Huo (Kent, Wash.) improved upon her first-round score, shooting two-over-par 75 Tuesday to move up into a tie for ninth place in the final standings at 152 (+6). Huo was steady over the two days with 23 pars, tied for seventh among the competitors, and she earned the second-best score on the par-three holes at one under par.

Nicole Gaddie (Salt Lake City, Utah) cut seven strokes off her first round, shooting 76 (+3) in the second round for a 36-hole total of 159 (+13), good enough for a tie for 25th place. Dorsey Addicks (Big Sky, Mont.) also finished in a tie for 25th place at 159 after a second-round 77 (+4), and Alexus Song (Auburn, Wash.) matched Addicks by improving by five strokes, shooting 82 (+9) for a two-round total of 169 (+23), finishing in a tie for 51st place.

As a team, Seattle University posted the second-best round of the day, combining for a score of 300 (+8), 16 strokes better than the Redhawks’ first-round total. Seattle U finished in second place in the team standings at 616 (+32), eight strokes behind tournament champion Cal Poly, but eight shots clear of third-place UC Riverside. Annie Freman of Santa Clara shot 69 (-4) in the second round to earn medalist honors by four shots over Lee and Jamie Corr of Cal Poly.

"I am extremely proud of the effort my team had today, in particular Juhee finishing in second place overall and shooting her first under par round. The fact that we are starting to see the results we are working so hard to obtain is gratifying. I have a wonderful group of young women, we are very young competitively and I believe we have a group that can accomplish special things,” Seattle U head women’s golf coach Marc Chandonnet said.

The Seattle University women’s golf team will compete in five tournaments during the spring season, culminating with the 2014 Western Athletic Conference Championships April 25-27 at Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.
